Artsy Fartsy: Hospitality Suite presented by Claochlu Studios Opens TONIGHT!!!

Greetings gang! We received a big announcement from our friends at Claochlu Studios who are performing their theatrical production of Roger Rueff's Hospitality Suite starting tonight at 8PM at Pittsburgh Filmmakers (477 Melwood Avenue in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh) with continuing performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 8PM and Sundays at 2PM running until March 11th.

Co-founder Joanna Lowe describes this particular production of Hospitality Suite by Roger Rueff as first and foremost a theatrical production that uses film to expand the audiences perspective on the characters, their background, and to expand the audience experience beyond just what they see and hear live on the stage.

The play itself surrounds 3 salesman confined to a hotel room in Wichita, Kansas -- each at crossroads in their life where talk of the sale turns to torrential questions of loyalty, life and death. Featuring Jeff Monahan, Everett Lowe, Matt Henderson, and Joseph A. Roots. Directed by Joanna Lowe.

Greetings one and all! Our friends from Horror Realm, Pittsburgh’s modern horror convention, celebrates the third annual Women in Horror Month with two events in February.  Women in Horror Month (WiHM) is a service offered through Viscera, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. WiHM expands opportunities for filmmakers, artists, and fans by raising awareness about the changing roles for women through filmmaking, writing, events, and networking.

A portion of the proceeds of Horror Realm’s WIHM events will benefit Pittsburgh Action Against Rape.

In partnership with The Oaks Theater in Oakmont, Horror Realm presents a 35 mm film screening of Near Dark on February 24 at 10 PM, with admission of $8 at the door.  Check ou the trailer!

Near Dark (1987 Trailer)

Announcement: Happy B-Day to PU Co-Creator Chops Huber!

PU Co-Creator, Karl Chops Huber
Doing What He Does Best at White Castle

Greetings gang! We would be remiss if we let the week go without a big birthday high-five (did we say high?) to our good friend and co-creator, Karl 'Chops' Huber!

Another year under his belt, another load in his pants - without Chops we wouldn't have the plethora of PU Pulps rolling in for 2012, the yarns he spins about Pittsburgh lore, his tummy growling restaurant critiques, and the seven medicinal herbs and spices that keep the creative juices flowing here at PU - in a word, we'd be more lost than he is without him.

Happy Birthday old friend - here's to another poop-free year!

Movies That Have Everything: Iconic Zombie Actor, Bill Hinzman is DEAD

Bill Hinzman
(October 24, 1936 – February 5, 2012)

Bill Hinzman, number one zombie in George Romaro's classic, Night of the Living Dead died in his Pennsylvania home on Sunday of cancer.

His big break came while working on the flick as assistant cameraman when Mr. Romaro himself asked him to play the first zombie to appear in the movie - quiet possibly, the proto-zombie for which all zombie's would emulate hence forth.

Bill Hinzman (Undead Again)

His daughter, Heidi Hinzman stated that her father wished to be cremated, joking that if buried he would ultimately 'come back'.

Producer Russ Streiner, who appeared opposite Hinzman, as Johnny (their coming to get you Barbra...) in the movie recalled how Bill was cast in the famous role: "We'd like to tell the story that it was a hard audition session but Bill was there and old enough and thin enough and he had an old suit."
