BLISS / Shane Alexander (2016)

Shane Alexander is one of the hardest working indie artists around. His song,  'Skyway Drive-In', a solo acoustic track from the 2013 release Ladera, crossed over 8 million streams on Spotify. Check out Shane Alexander’s latest video ‘Evergreen’ below!

Bliss, Alexander's first self-production, is also the first record made at his new Buddhaland Studios in Southern California. Bliss is a timeless tribute to the artist's influences, both classic and more recent contemporaries such as Jonathan Wilson, Ryan Adams and Conor Oberst. Alexander’s crystalline tenor and deft acoustic guitar are at the heart of all the tracks.

Touring the US and 11 other countries both as a headliner, and supporting acts like Bon Iver, Jewel, John Hiatt, Suzanne Vega, Seal, Styx and Yes, the fiercely independent artist has developed loyal international fanbase. Shane Alexander is a proud endorser of Guild Guitars, D'Addario Strings, LR Baggs pickups and DI's, Levy's Straps, Hercules Stands and Blue Microphones

Press:
"The self-produced album contains ten tracks all written or co-written by Shane Alexander. The production is top-notch, with every instrument coming through as clearly as the pitch-perfect vocals. It’s the feel good album of the summer, full of songs with themes that will leave you feeling as purposeful as a sunrise.”—Parcbench

"Alexander’s crystal clear vocals deliver every word with intention."--The Daily Country

"This upcoming audio offering cements his fluid, acoustically-driven signature sound as a tuneful tribute to both classic rock influences and more recent lesser known ones as well."--Music, Art, Film (MAF)

"A collection of expertly produced, well-crafted and superbly sung songs, it’s a testament to the level of quality indie artists can achieve without major-label backing."--Ink 19

"Smooth vocals, beautiful lyrics with a background of pleasantly mastered instruments…"--Seattle Music Insider

“Alexander’s pleasant smooth tenor is the centerpiece of the songs, but (his) inventive complex fingerpicked guitar is almost equally impressive.”—Workin’ Man’s Blues

“His work runs deep from the roots…He filled the room with emotive, colorful lyrics, sweet guitar melodies and a voice that is sweet with a hint of darkness.”—Live Review Noho Arts District Magazine

Announcement: Prince R.I.P.

The artist known as Prince has died at the age of 57.

"It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57," said his publicist Yvette Noel-Schure.

In early April, Prince said he wasn't feeling well, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, and canceled at least one concert in the city. Some days later, he took the stage in Atlanta to perform. After that concert, the singer's plane made an emergency landing, Noel-Schure stated e said, "He is fine and at home."

As of 2pm today, there is still no word on his cause of death. Stay tuned for updates.

Music 4Ur Bleadin' Ears: The Beastie Boys Play With Themselves

The Beastie Boys with Kung Fu Grip!!!

Hey gang! Well, another October has come and gone and with that comes the impending doom of the 'other' holiday season (if you know what we mean...). Although the gang here at PU has little love for the commercialism of this time of year we can't help but think to simpler times when the excitement of unwrapping a new action figure for our collection didn't get us jumping for joy.

With that said, today we wanted to bring you the Beastie Boys video by Spike Jonze: Don't Play No Game That I Can't Win  featuring Santigold from the album Hot Sauce Committee Part II. Check out the full length awesomeness!!!

The Beastie Boys: Don't Play No Game I Can't Win
Director: Spike Jonze

Hey, who wouldn't want to go on an adventure with Mike D, MCA, and Ad-Rock? These dudes have been spinnin' the good rhyme since the 1979 (that's right gang - they've been at it a LONG time)! With age comes perfection and these guys have made an indelible mark in the world of pop culture. GUESS WHAT!!! You can actually nab these wicked cool action figures (produced by Nowhere Limited and Bathing Ape) and go on your very own adventures with the Beastie crew! Granted, the set costs $750.00, but it if makes you feel any better, the proceeds do get split up between two very worthwhile charities that help kids who have cancer. Check out the Beastie Boys Official Shop Site and nab yours today!!!

BEASTIE BOYS BONUS!!! Yes, we here at Pittsburgh Underground are suckers for giant robots and monsters so we would be remiss if we neglected to feature the Beastie Boys: Intergalactic from the album Hello Nasty. Enjoy!!!

Music 4Ur Bleedin' Ears: Cee Lo Green F**in' Rocks!!!

Cee Lo Green Muppetized for The 2011 Grammys

Hey kids! Welcome to a brand new bloody segment entitled: Music 4Ur Bleedin' Ears. Now, don't get me wrong - the gang here at Pittsburgh Underground isn't going to even pretend that we're a music site (we aren't). However, we dig the music - so today, we talk tunes!

Seriously, did you ever get a song locked in your noggin' that you can't get out for days (or weeks, or MONTHS even!). Who hasn't? Let's face it gang - catchy is catchy regardless of genre. Tony Bennett was once asked why the younger generation had locked onto some of his tried and true tunes? Mr. Bennett replied, "good is good'... ). Wise sage... we here at PU agree.

So with that said, I wanted to turn our attention to a dude that's been around for a while - Cee Lo Green. This guy has accomplished a lot in his young life - a rapper, singer-songwriter, producer, and an actor. Not bad for a dude  nearing 40. Seriously - this guy even had a cameo in one of PU's favorite movies, Mystery Men, as one of the Not So Good mob.
