Announcment: The No Name Players Present Mistakes Madeline Made THIS FRIDAY!

The No Name Players
Present Mistakes Madeline Made

Hidey Ho everyone! MMM...what's that smell? Do you smell that smell?  No it's not the gang from good ol' PU! This time it's our friends The No Name Players who are at it again - this time presenting Mistakes Madeline Made by Elizabeth Meriwether and directed by Marci Woodruff. The cast includes Todd Betker, Don DiGiulio, John Feightner, Tressa Glover and Liz Roberts in a production that will burn the eyes and flood your alfactory senses!

THE MISTAKES MADELINE MADE is a twisted and hilarious coming-of-age story about a girl who develops Ablutophobia, the fear of bathing. Struggling with a soul-crushing job as a personal assistant, she wages a furious, funny war against all things complacent, pampered and clean.  The play raises the questions: Is dirty living a political act? And is clean living even possible in these times of unrest? An unlikely story of love and dirty people.

The gang from Pittsburgh Underground was graciously invited to a private showing of The No Name Players last production, The Book of Liz which we absolutely LOVED (check out our review for The No Name Players Present The Book of Liz). We highly recommend seeing what all the buzz is about for yourselves with a fun filled night of indy-theatre!

All the dirty fun will begin at 8PM (with no late seating) at the PITT Studio Theatre at the Cathedral of Learning at 4200 Fifth Avenue in Pittsburgh's Oakland on the following dates: July 29th and 30th, August 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, 11th, 12th, 13th.

Through its festival/competition, the Project encourages filmmakers and would-be filmmakers to get out there and make movies. The tight deadline of 48 hours puts the focus squarely on the filmmakers—emphasizing creativity and teamwork skills. While the time limit places an unusual restriction on the filmmakers, it is also liberating by putting an emphasis on "doing" instead of "talking."

Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 with vaild student ID, and $5 for kids under 12 years of age per screening. All Screen Passes are $20. Tickets for the event can be purchased HERE.

Support your local independant film makers for a fun night for all!

PU It Stinks: NEW Google Blogger is BUGGY!!!

First off, let's start by saying that the gang here at Pittsburgh Underground does love Google. They've got great appications (many of them free) for users to express themselves, find information, and to do all those techno-babble things that most of us modern mortals can't seem to live without.

One of these great applications is Google Blogger (yes, you're using it now by reading this article). Free to everyone and a great way to publish information, entertainment, and everything in between.

On July 7th, Google Blogger updated it's dashboard interface, streamlining it in an attempt to make it more user friendly to those who create with it. It is an improvement - a great improvement, if it wasn't for ALL THE BUGS...

That's right kids, BUGS. The new Google Blogger is bugger than a baitshop - we've experienced more 'Service Unavailable' messages merely by trying to access the dashboard, post, or preview since it launched last week. In a nutshell - IRRITATING, not to mention inconvenient to both us and you, our fair readers.

Granted, this is a free service of Google, BUT purchasing our new URL wasn't - making this a bitter pill to snort. When something ain't broke, why try and fix it. The old Google Blogger could be problematic at moments (our most recent issue being our new URL wouldn't work with the old website), but it always posted our articles and we never had problems accessing it's mechanics.

So where do we go from here? Patience young padawans. We aren't the only group experiencing the bite of Google Blogger-bugs so we do have faith that Google is addressing the problems. Sadly, in a world of instant gratification, all we can do is wait and hope that the problems can be addressed sooner rather than later.

Until then, all we can all do is grin, bear it, and stay tuned...

Movies That Have Everything Preview: Hobo With A Shotgun

Hey gang! GUESS WHAT (no, not chicken-butt!)!!! The gang from good ol' Pittsburgh Underground is going out TONIGHT to our favorite hangout, The Hollywood Theater in Dormont to watch Hobo with a Shotgun, starring one of our favorite actors, Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner, Ladyhawke, Sin City). Check out this awesome feed we have below from Magnet Films!

Hobo With A Shotgun from Magnet Films
(Red Band Trailer)

What's wicked about this film isn't just it's grindhouse roots, or the awesome Mr. Hauer, but that its director, Jason Eisener, won a competition to make a fake trailer for Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's Grindhouse double bill in 2007. The original Hobo trailer was filmed (without Hauer) on the mean streets of Halifax, Canada, for $150, using a real shotgun as a prop. Like Danny Trejo's Machete, it got Eisener a movie deal. Check out the ORIGINAL trailer that won Eisner the deal below:

Hobo with a Shotgun
(Contest Winning Footage from Jason Eisner)

The film starts tonight at the Hollywood Theater (1449 Potomac Avenue in Dormont) starting at 9:30 PM. Hope to see you there!

Announcement: Horror Authors to Appear at Eljay's Used Books

Hey gang! Our old pals over at the Horror Realm continue their Summer of Scares, teaming up with the good folks over at Ejay's Used Books, (3233 West Liberty Avenue in Dormont) who will be showcasing local horror authors who are either self published or work with independent publishing companies.

The fun starts this Saturday, July 9th at 3pm and continues each Saturday at 3pm till August 6th. Each event will feature a local author reading selections from their book(s), participating in a question and answer session, and signing books.

The schedule is as follows:
July 9 - Tim Gross is the author of a series of horror movie review books. Tim doesn't just review the blockbusters, so you'll find tons of reviews on indie film from all over the world in each of his books. Chat with Tim and get an autographed copy of one of his review guides.

July 16 – Christine Soltis discusses and signs her book Final Moon as part of the series. Christine is the author or a number of books and ebooks ranging from poetry to horror.

July 30 – Mike Watt: The only thing we have to fear, we're told, is fear itself. In Phobophobia, the first fiction collection from award-winning screenwriter and journalist Mike Watt, ordinary people going through everyday events are subjected to nightmares beyond their imagining. In Phobophobia, nothing is what it seems ... -- Not a classic cherry red Mustang... -- Not a run-of-the-mill art exhibit... -- Not a Valentine's Day gift... -- Not even Christmas Morning...

August 6 - Jon Towers is known for his stunning zombie art and his series The New Apocypha. Jon will be signing his latest book in The New Apocrypha series: The Order of the Shining Hexagon. Jon is both an artist and writer, and has been self-publishing his comic books for about ten years. Jon is also an indy pro-wrestler.

So come on out to Ejay's Used Books and meet up with this scarey society of scribblers for another fun filled event sponsored by our friends at The Horror Realm (BOOOOHHHAAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!)

Comics To Rot Your Brain: DC Comics REBOOT coming in September 2011

What - DC Worry?

Howdy gang! Well, all the rumblings are true - the folks at DC Comics have decided to reboot their universe yet AGAIN (that's right kids, remember Crisis on Infinite Earths back in 1985?). This means that ALL your favorite books are getting their slates wiped clean, starting all over again at issue number 1.

Along with the reboot, DC Comics is also offering their titles in both digital and traditional formats (iPad fans rejoice)!

As expected, there are some fanboys that are crying in their Underoos, worried that the beloved continuity of their favorite titles such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and the rest of the DC family of titles will either become completely convoluted or disappear entirely.

With that said, here are the boys from DC Comics: Dan Dido and Jim Lee, Bob Harras, Eddie Berganza, and Grant Morrison as they do their best to calm all your fears regarding the new reboot starting this September.

The DC Comic Reboot Explained by the Boys at DC Comics

The reboot includes the following 52 titles plus Batman Incorporated which is slated for a 2012 release.
